Common Core trainings for elementary teachers!

Teach For America is pleased to offer two Common Core trainings this spring for alumni elementary teachers. A minimum number of participants is required to hold the trainings.

When: Saturday, May 3 from 9am - 1pm (Elementary Math focus) & Saturday, May 10: 9am - 1pm (Elementary ELA focus)
Where: Teach For America office (606 S. Olive St, Suite 300 Los Angeles, CA 90014)

ELA Participants will:
• Examine close reading and text-dependent questioning as a strategy to get students deeply into the text and develop enduring understanding (skill and conceptual)
• Discuss the importance of using close reading to develop lifelong readers and learners
• Identify resources available to teachers to support the teaching and learning of the Common Core State Standards of English Language Arts/ Literacy

Math Participants will:
• Examine Math instruction through the lens of coherence, rigor and focus
• Discuss the implications of math instruction if the Math Practices are evident in instruction
• Connect teaching and learning to the Common Core State Standards
• Identify resources available to teachers that support shifting classroom practices that promote mathematical reasoning
